          ZINC POLYCARBOXYLATE  CEMENT  INTRODUCTION: Zinc polycarboxylate cement s also known as zinc polyalkalonic acid or zinc polyacrylate . Zinc polycarboxylate cement has good thermal insulation property  ADA SPECIFICATION NUMBER for zinc polycarboxylate cement is 96 It can be used as cavity liner or base for amalgam restoration where cavity with remaining dentin thickness greater than 0.5mm. 1)COMPOSITION: POWDER - ZINC OXIDE  (90%),MAGNESIUM OXIDE (10%) STANNIC OXIDE may be substituted in the place of magnesium oxide ,BISMUTH OXIDE ,ALUMINUM OXIDE .  Zinc Phosphate Cement ADA Specification number of Zinc Phosphate is 96. Zinc phosphate cement was originally developed more than 100 years ago and was extremely popular during most of the twentieth century. CLASSIFICATION: TYPE 1 : Fine grained for luting Type 2: medium grained for luting and restorative purpose. COMPOSITION: Zinc Phosphate cement contains  powder and liquid containers which comes separately. powder: zinc oxide 75%,magnesium  oxide 13%,silicone dioxide-2%,bismuth trioxide-0.1% liquid: phosphoric acid 38-59% in water 30-50% and is buffered with aluminium and zinc salts to control the ph.,zinc- 7%,aluminium-2% CHEMISTRY AND  SETTING : REACTION TYPE- ACID-BASE REACTION SETTING REACTION: Phosphoric acid dissolve in zinc oxide react with aluminum phosphate to form zinc aluminophosphate gel on undissolved zinc oxide particles  set cement: unreacted zinc oxide particles gets encased in amorphous matrix of zinc aluminophosphate. loss of water from liquid increases the settin

  CONFIGURATION FACTOR ( C- FACTOR)  IN COMPOSITE  It is a three dimensional configuration of a prepared cavity. c - factor was introduced by feilzer in the year 1987 Configuration factor is calculated by the number of bonded surface to unbounded surface . composite resin undergo  polymerisation shrinkage : polymerisation shrinkage is a process that occurs when resin gets cured. stress generation along bonded area as they are bonded  micro mechanically free surface - free flow of composite thereby decreasing stress.   NOTE: REFER THE ABOVE IMAGE - In order to get a better understanding on bounded and unbounded surface in a prepared. cavity  REASONS FOR POLYMERISATION SHRINKAGE When composite resin gets cured ,during  the polymerisation process since monomeric particles are more voluminous than polymer ,moneric chains gets unbounded vanderwal force of interaction gets converted to covalent bond. matrix generally shrink from cavity wall,material cure towards the centre of bulk pulls mate
